How to Clean Windows Without Streaks - The 5 Minute Professional Technique
You've tried everything
Paper towels? Streaks. Vinegar solution? Still streaks. Expensive blue spray from the store? You guessed it, streaks.
Here's the truth most people don't realize: You don't have a product problem. You have a technique problem.
Professional window cleaners don't have access to magic solutions. They use the same basic soap and water you do. The difference? They've mastered a simple 5-minute technique that delivers streak-free results every single time.
WHY DO WINDOWS STREAK? THE SCIENCE EXPLAINED
1. Residue Left Behind
When you wipe a window with paper towels or cloth, you're not removing cleaning solution, you're spreading it around.
2. Water Evaporation Issues
The cleaning solution evaporates too quickly on sunny days.
3. Wrong Tools Push Dirt Around
Paper towels leave behind microscopic paper fibers.
4. Wrong Squeegee Angle
The professional secret? 45 degrees.
THE 5-MINUTE PROFESSIONAL TECHNIQUE
STEP 1: Get the Right Tools (1 minute)
- Professional squeegee (10-12 inches)
- Microfiber scrubber or T-bar applicator
- Cleaning solution: 1 drop of dish soap + 1 gallon of water
- Microfiber towel for edges
STEP 2: Wet the Window (30 seconds)
Apply the solution in an S-pattern, working top to bottom.
STEP 3: The Squeegee Technique (2 minutes)
- Place the squeegee blade in the top left corner
- Hold at a 45-degree angle
- Pull straight down in one smooth motion
- Wipe blade after EVERY stroke
- Overlap each stroke slightly
STEP 4: Detail the Edges (1 minute)
Use your microfiber towel to wipe top edge, left and right edges, and bottom sill.
STEP 5: Final Check (30 seconds)
Step back 3-4 feet and look at an angle. Fix any remaining spots.
Total time: 5 minutes
