Why This System
Wright Windows' flush sash range sets them apart in the Irish market - these windows replicate the appearance of traditional timber sash windows that are common in Irish period housing but deliver the performance and low maintenance of modern materials. For window cleaners, flush sash windows have a different geometry to standard casement windows: the flush face means less shadow-line around the frame but different drainage behaviour and seal placement.
Alu-clad systems require attention to the junction between the aluminium exterior cladding and the PVC or timber core - grime and moisture accumulate at this joint. Flush sash profiles have less obvious drainage paths than casement windows; water management on these frames requires clearing the less visible drainage points at the bottom of each sash. Ireland's high rainfall means all Wright Windows systems benefit from regular drainage maintenance to perform as designed.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Wright Windows windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Wright Windows systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Wright Windows installation.
- 1
1. On alu-clad systems, identify the aluminium-to-frame junction and clear any debris from this joint before applying water - grime impacted here causes staining.
- 2
2. Pre-rinse all frames and sills with clean water; on flush sash windows, rinse along the full face of the sash to dislodge organic grime from the flat profile surface.
- 3
3. Apply pH-neutral detergent to glass and frames; use a soft brush on alu-clad joint lines and flush sash drainage slots.
- 4
4. Squeegee glass top to bottom; wipe frames with a damp microfibre cloth - on flush sash profiles, wipe with the grain of the profile to avoid leaving lint in the seal line.
- 5
5. Locate and clear drainage weep holes on all frame types - pay particular attention to bottom sash drainage on flush sash windows where weep hole placement is less obvious.
Pro Tips
- Flush sash windows in period Irish properties are often on sheltered north or east-facing walls - check for moss on the flat profile face on every visit, it establishes faster on flush surfaces than on standard casement shadow lines.
- Alu-clad junction lines accumulate a mix of organic grime and oxidation from the aluminium surface - a soft nylon brush works better than a cloth for clearing this joint.
- Portlaoise and the midlands have lower salt air than the coast but higher frost risk in winter - check that rubber seals on flush sash windows are supple and not cracking on late autumn visits.
What NOT To Do
- Do not use abrasive pads on alu-clad exterior surfaces - aluminium cladding scratches easily and surface damage allows moisture into the core material.
- Do not use silicone-based products on flush sash seals - attracts dust and causes seal faces to stick, damaging the compression seal geometry.
- Do not overlook drainage on flush sash windows - the less obvious drain points are the most commonly blocked.

Field Notes
โWright Windows' flush sash range is commonly specified for planning-sensitive properties in Irish towns and villages where traditional appearance is required. These windows are often on older buildings with existing stone or render surrounds - check that cleaning water drains away from the surround and does not penetrate behind the frame into older masonry. On alu-clad systems, if the aluminium exterior shows white oxidation patches, note this to the property owner - it indicates the clear lacquer coat has failed and the cladding needs professional treatment, not a cleaning solution.โ
