Why This System

Asian Paints backing means Weatherseal has the distribution network and consumer trust of an established national brand. The 20-year warranty creates accountability that most Indian window companies avoid. For cleaners, it means clients may be more invested in maintaining the product properly.

Weatherseal uPVC profiles use German-engineered formulations with good UV stabiliser packages - better than many Indian-manufactured uPVC profiles. However, Mumbai's coastal salt air, high humidity, and UV still degrade seals and hardware over time. Aluminium systems on sea-facing Mumbai apartments need particular attention to corrosion at frame joints.

Step 1 of 2: Manufacturer Recommendations

Official Care Guidance

No official guide published. The steps below are based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience with this system.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean Weatherseal windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Weatherseal systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Ettore Squeegee 14"
2Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole
3Moerman Liquidator
4Boab Belt System

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Weatherseal installation.

  1. 1

    1. Pre-rinse with clean water - Mumbai's salt-air film and dust need to be flushed before detergent application.

  2. 2

    2. Apply pH-neutral detergent; do not use high-alkaline products on uPVC profiles.

  3. 3

    3. Clean glass top to bottom with squeegee; overlap strokes by 2cm.

  4. 4

    4. Wipe frames with microfibre, working along the profile length not across it.

  5. 5

    5. Clear weep holes and drain channels; dry hardware with a cloth on coastal installations.

Pro Tips

  • Mumbai sea-facing installations: clear weep holes on every visit - salt-air corrosion begins at drainage points.
  • Weatherseal aluminium frames on upper floors face high UV and salt loading - check gasket condition on each clean.
  • Tilt-and-turn mechanisms need PTFE lubrication every 12 months in Mumbai humidity.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use solvent-based cleaners near the gasket seals - degrades rubber in humid conditions.
  • Do not ignore weep hole blockage - standing water in Mumbai humidity promotes mould inside frames.
  • Do not use abrasive products on the German-profile uPVC surface - harder to source replacements if profiles are damaged.

Field Notes

โ€œWeatherseal installs are typically in premium residential complexes where clients notice quality. Present the service professionally. Mumbai sea-facing apartments above the 10th floor are exposed to wind-driven salt spray - the frames look clean but carry invisible salt deposits. Always include a thorough frame rinse, not just glass cleaning.โ€
