Why This System
Weather Shield wood-exterior windows (1000 Series) require a different approach than aluminium-clad wood - the exterior wood surface must never be wetted with cleaning water that is not quickly dried. Premium wood interiors on all Weather Shield lines require the same water isolation protocol as Marvin Signature and Kolbe wood-interior windows. The aluminium cladding on Visions and Destiny series windows is typically painted or anodised - check the finish before selecting cleaning approach.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Weather Shield Windows & Doors windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Weather Shield Windows & Doors systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Weather Shield Windows & Doors installation.
- 1
Inspect junctions and wood condition
Check aluminium-to-wood junctions and wood exterior finish before cleaning.
- 2
Clean frames non-abrasively
Microfibre and pH-neutral solution on all frame surfaces.
- 3
Squeegee glass with water control
Controlled strokes. Dry any wood surface contact immediately.
- 4
Detail and dry
Lint-free cloth edge detail and final drip check.
Pro Tips
- Weather Shield 1000 Series all-wood exterior windows are rare - treat them with the same care as a fine piece of furniture.
What NOT To Do
- Do not allow water to pool on wood exterior surfaces on 1000 Series windows
- Do not allow water to run onto wood interior trim
- Do not use abrasive tools on aluminium cladding or glass
