Why This System

VEKA supplies profiles to independent fabricators - the glazing, hardware, seals, and assembly quality vary from fabricator to fabricator. uPVC reacts to the wrong cleaning agents permanently - a discoloured or etched profile cannot be reversed. Foil-laminated and VEKA SPECTRAL surfaces need different care than white profiles - using the wrong product on the wrong surface is a common mistake. Sunscreen and mineral fertiliser dust must be cleaned immediately if they contact the profile surface - they cause permanent changes to the uPVC. VEKA manufactures exclusively to Class A (DIN EN 12608) - the highest grade of uPVC profile - engineered for 30+ years of service life.

Step 1 of 2: Manufacturer Recommendations

Official Care Guidance

Source: VEKA OFFICIAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE DOCUMENTATION

Glass

  • Clean with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.
  • A mild neutral cleaner can be used if needed.
  • Rinse with clean water after using any cleaning product.
  • No aggressive or solvent-based cleaning agents.

uPVC Frames - White Profiles

  • Clean with a clean, soft cloth and lukewarm water.
  • A neutral cleaner can be added if needed.
  • Rinse the frame with clean water after using any cleaner.
  • For stubborn dirt, use an intensive cleaner recommended for white unfoiled profiles.
  • VEKA recommends VEKAPRO XtraCare White for intensive cleaning of white profiles.
  • VEKAPRO SuperFinish provides long-term protection for white unfoiled profiles.

uPVC Frames - Foil-Laminated and VEKA SPECTRAL Surfaces

  • Clean with a clean, soft cloth and lukewarm water.
  • For regular cleaning, VEKA recommends VEKAPRO DailyClean (suitable for all window surfaces).
  • For stubborn dirt, use VEKAPRO XtraCare Colour - specifically developed for these surfaces.
  • Do NOT use the same intensive cleaner on foil-laminated profiles as on white profiles - different agents are required.
  • VEKA SPECTRAL surfaces are dust-repellent with an anti-fingerprint effect.

Seals

  • Clean with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth.
  • Check seals for damage or deformation during cleaning.

Hardware and Drainage

  • Moving hardware parts should be treated at least once a year with an acid-free and resin-free grease or oil.
  • When the sash is open, clean the rebate between sash and frame with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Check drainage openings in the frame for continuity - ensure slots are not blocked.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean VEKA windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for VEKA systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1T-bar applicator with microfibre cover
2Professional squeegee with a fresh rubber blade
3Bucket with lukewarm water and one drop of mild washing-up liquid per litre
4100% cotton towelling rags for edge detailing
5Soft microfibre cloth for the frame surfaces
6Vacuum cleaner for drainage channels and rebates

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every VEKA installation.

  1. 1

Detail the frame before touching the glass

Before touching the glass, wipe down the uPVC frame edges with a microfibre cloth dampened in mild soap water. This removes the dust, pollen, and grime sitting on the profile surface.

When you run the squeegee across the glass, the rubber edge makes contact with the frame. If there is dirt on that frame, the squeegee picks it up and drags it across the clean glass as a streak. Clean the frame first. Every time.

On foil-laminated or VEKA SPECTRAL surfaces, use only mild soap water or VEKAPRO DailyClean. No solvents, no ammonia, no generic spray-and-wipe products.

  2. 2

    Agitation

Dip your T-bar applicator completely into the soap water on both sides. Apply the solution across the whole glass area using up-and-down or side-to-side motions. The goal is to dissolve the dirt, ready for the squeegee to shave away.

If the dirt is not fully dissolved, the remaining dirt gets transported over the squeegee, leaving smudges or smears. Take your time. Never clean in direct sunlight - the soap water dries before you can squeegee it off. On south-facing VEKA windows in summer, clean in the morning or evening.

  3. 3

Detail the frame edge again before squeegeeing

Once the glass is agitated, run a dry corner of your cotton rag along the top edge and both side edges. This removes pooled soap water from the frame so the squeegee will not pick up dirty residue.

  4. 4

    The three squeegee turns

Side to side: start at the very top edge with a dry rubber. Work across in a straight horizontal line. Tilt the squeegee at a slight angle so soap water spills from only one side. Wipe the rubber dry after each line. Overlap slightly into the next line down.

Top to bottom: same principle in vertical lines. Start in the top corner with a dry rubber. Tilt to direct water to the lower side. Wipe dry after each line. Overlap into the next line across.

The J tune (continuous motion): from the top to the bottom in one smooth movement with no stops. Your thumb guides the rotation. When this is in your muscle memory, it is the fastest and most consistent turn for any window size.

For VEKA sliding door systems with large glass panels, use the top-to-bottom turn with a pole for the upper section, then finish the lower section with the side-to-side turn at arm height.

  5. 5

    Final edge detailing

After squeegeeing, take a dry cotton rag, fold it to a clean corner, and detail the bottom edge and sides in one smooth pass.

Get your finger into the edge where the glass meets the frame seal. Remove any pooled soap water. If left to dry, it leaves a residue mark in direct sunlight.

Rotate the rag so you are only ever touching the glass with a clean, dry section.

Pro Tips

  • Identify the surface type before you start - white, foil-laminated, or VEKA SPECTRAL. Each needs different care.
  • Clean the frame first, every time. Most streaks come from dirt the squeegee picks up at the frame edge.
  • Do not use the same intensive cleaner on foil-laminated profiles as on white profiles - different agents are required.
  • Remove sunscreen and mineral fertiliser dust immediately on contact - do not wait for the next scheduled cleaning.
  • On large VEKASLIDE or VEKAMOTION panels with triple glazing, use lighter squeegee pressure - heavy glass flexes differently.

What NOT To Do

  • No solvents on any VEKA uPVC surface - white, foil-laminated, or SPECTRAL.
  • No acid-based cleaners - acid causes permanent damage to uPVC profiles.
  • No abrasive cleaners, scouring powder, steel wool, or stiff brushes on frames or glass.
  • Do not use the same intensive cleaner on foil-laminated profiles as on white profiles - different agents are required for each surface type.
  • Do not leave sunscreen or mineral fertiliser dust on the profile surface - clean immediately to prevent permanent changes.
  • No high-pressure water directed at frame joints, drainage channels, or hardware.
  • Do not clean glass in direct sunlight - the soap water dries before you can squeegee it off, baking residue onto the surface.
  • No aggressive or solvent-based cleaning agents on the glass.
