Why This System

The Yullard projected window is the product most associated with the Shin Nikkei name. These outward-projecting windows on older Japanese office buildings have a specific cleaning challenge - the outer face of the projected panel is inaccessible from inside and from the standard rope-down or MEWP position when the window is closed. Protocols for access need to account for this. Shin Nikkei's commercial systems frequently used anodised aluminium finishes - the standard for Japanese commercial construction in their era. Anodised aluminium requires pH-neutral products only.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean Shin Nikkei windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Shin Nikkei systems.

Pro Tips

  • On Yullard projected windows, the outer face cleaning is most efficiently done from a rope-down position with the window closed - the projecting panel face is then accessible without the window interfering with rope access equipment

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use alkaline or acidic cleaners on anodised Shin Nikkei frames
  • Do not use abrasive pads on any surface
  • Do not attempt to clean projected window outer faces without a confirmed access protocol
  • Do not pressure wash into aged seals on pre-2000 installations

Field Notes

โ€œThe Yullard window access challenge is a genuine site planning issue - establish the opening and closing protocol with the building manager before starting. Some office buildings have locked projected windows that cannot be opened during business hours. Shin Nikkei systems on older Japanese office buildings often sit alongside other brands installed during renovations - check whether frame finishes are consistent across the facade before applying a single product to all frames.โ€
