Why This System

Textured (structura) powder coats are increasingly common - soft brush only, no scrubbing. Hi-Finity sliding doors share many considerations with Sky-Frame: heavy panes, recessed tracks. Threshold drainage on patio doors needs annual clearing.

Step 1 of 2: Manufacturer Recommendations

Official Care Guidance

Source: REYNAERS ALUMINIUM - OFFICIAL CARE & MAINTENANCE DOCUMENTATION

Reynaers Official Care Guidance

  • Use a mild neutral pH detergent and warm water for all frame surfaces.
  • Apply with a soft cloth or sponge - no abrasive pads, scouring sponges, or wire brushes.
  • Rinse frames thoroughly with clean water after cleaning to remove all detergent residue.
  • Use Reynaers Clean and Care Wax to restore and protect the powder coat after cleaning.
  • Use Reynaers Aluminium Renewer for oxidised or dull anodised surfaces.
  • Lubricate moving parts (hinges, handles, locks, sliding tracks) with Reynaers Aluminium Lubricant every 12 months.
  • Reynaers Deepclean is available for heavy deposits and environmental buildup.

Textured (Structura) Finishes

  • Use a soft natural-bristle brush only - never abrasive pads or hard scrubbing.
  • Light pressure and neutral detergent with a thorough rinse.
  • Scrubbing flattens the texture permanently - there is no recovery from this.

What Not To Do

  • Do not use abrasive cleaning products, scouring pads, or wire brushes on any Reynaers surface.
  • Do not use acid-based cleaners - they etch and discolour the anodised layer.
  • Do not use solvent-based cleaners on powder-coated frames.
  • Do not pressure-wash thresholds or drainage channels.
  • Do not use silicone lubricant on sliding tracks - use only manufacturer-specified products.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean Reynaers windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Reynaers systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Microfiber T-bar applicator with a clean cover
2Professional squeegee with fresh rubber blade
3Extension pole for Hi-Finity panels above arm height
4Soft natural-bristle brush for textured (structura) frames
5Soft sponge or cloth for smooth powder coat and anodised frames
6Neutral pH window cleaning detergent
7100% cotton rags for edge detailing
8Vacuum cleaner for Hi-Finity and patio door tracks
9Nitrile gloves - especially for bronze anodised installations
10Reynaers Aluminium Lubricant for hardware (if included in the service scope)

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Reynaers installation.

  1. 1

Identify the frame finish before touching the glass

Walk the installation before opening any product. Identify whether the frames are smooth powder coat, textured (structura) powder coat, or anodised. The cleaning approach for each is different - structura needs a soft bristle brush only, smooth powder coat takes a sponge, anodised gets a soft cloth. Mixing these up causes visible, permanent damage.

Also identify whether there are Hi-Finity sliding panels or patio door threshold channels that need track maintenance on this visit.

  2. 2

Vacuum tracks and threshold channels before washing

On any Reynaers sliding system or patio door, vacuum the track and threshold drainage channel before any water is introduced. Dry debris is removable. Wet debris becomes paste that sits in the drainage openings and causes water to back up into the building.

On Hi-Finity panels: vacuum the recessed floor channel thoroughly. Treat it the same as a Sky-Frame sill track - soft brush first, then vacuum.

  3. 3

    Agitate and wash glass panels

Standard professional glass wash. Fill the bucket with neutral pH solution, apply with the T-bar in overlapping passes, ensure all deposits are fully dissolved before the squeegee touches the glass.

For Hi-Finity panels at large format: work in sections, keep each section wet until you squeegee it, extension pole at 45 degrees for panels above arm height. Lighter squeegee pressure on large triple-glazed panels - they are heavy and the contact is different from standard residential glass.

  4. 4

Clean frames according to finish type

Smooth powder coat: neutral detergent, soft sponge, firm circular motion on deposits, full rinse.

Textured (structura) powder coat: neutral detergent, soft natural-bristle brush, light pressure, full rinse. No scrubbing. No abrasive pads. The texture cannot be restored once flattened.

Anodised finish: neutral detergent, soft cloth. Nitrile gloves when handling the frame edge on bronze anodised - fingerprints show immediately. Rinse thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Squeegee and edge detail

Standard squeegee method. Wipe blade after every pass. Detail the bottom edge and frame junctions with a cotton rag after squeegeeing.

On Hi-Finity and large sliding panels: top-to-bottom with the pole for the upper section, side-to-side from arm height down. Wipe the blade after every pass - on panels this wide a dirty blade creates a streak across the full width.

  6. 6

Clear threshold drainage and wipe tracks

After the glass and frames are complete, use a soft cloth to wipe the threshold channel and confirm the drainage openings are clear. Water should flow out freely when you pour a small amount of clean water into the channel.

Wipe the track rails clean. On Hi-Finity: the recessed floor track should be completely clear and dry at the end of the job.

  7. 7

    Hardware lubrication (if in scope)

If hardware maintenance is included in the clean: apply Reynaers Aluminium Lubricant to hinges, handles, lock points, and sliding track rollers. Use a dry cloth to remove excess. Do not use silicone lubricant - it attracts dust and contaminates the brush seals on sliding systems.

Pro Tips

  • Never use abrasive pads on textured (structura) finishes - the texture flattens permanently and the damage is visible in side light from across the room.
  • Wear nitrile gloves when handling bronze anodised frame edges - fingerprints show immediately on this finish.
  • Vacuum tracks before washing glass - wet debris becomes paste in the drainage channels.
  • Do not use silicone lubricant on sliding tracks - use Reynaers Aluminium Lubricant only.
  • On Hi-Finity panels, use lighter squeegee pressure - the triple-glazed panels are heavy and the contact point is different from standard glass.
  • Clean threshold drainage channels at every visit - blocked drainage is the most common Reynaers service call.
  • Do not let acid-based cleaners touch anodised frames - the etching is instant and irreversible.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use abrasive pads on textured finishes.
  • Do not pressure-wash thresholds.
  • Do not lubricate sliding tracks with anything other than the manufacturer-specified product.

Cleaning Frequency

Glass: 2-4 times per year (Twice per year minimum. Four times for urban, coastal, or high-traffic locations.). Frame surfaces: Every glass clean (Clean frames at every glass visit to prevent deposit buildup on the powder coat or anodised surface.). Track and drainage channels: Every clean (Clear at every visit - blocked drainage is the most common cause of water ingress on Reynaers sliding systems.). Hardware lubrication: Annual (Reynaers recommends lubricating all moving parts every 12 months with Reynaers Aluminium Lubricant.)

Can I use a water-fed pole on Reynaers windows?
Yes, purified water via a water-fed pole is one of the safest methods for Reynaers glass. Ensure TDS is at or near zero before use and avoid directing high-pressure water at seals or gaskets.

Field Notes

β€œBronze anodised finishes are very common on Reynaers - particularly easy to mark with a fingerprint. Wear nitrile gloves when handling the frame edges.”
