Why This System
Profile 22 is available in both chamfered and sculptured (ovolo) sightline options - the cleaning approach is the same, but the ovolo profile has rounded rebate grooves that collect more soap residue if the rinsing step is skipped. The trickle ventilator integrated into the Profile 22 casement head is one of the most commonly blocked components on UK windows. UK airborne grime, pollen, and dust accumulate in the vent slots within weeks in high-traffic urban environments. Profile 22 colour-foil options use co-extruded surface foils bonded to the white uPVC core - these clean identically to standard uPVC but are sensitive to solvent-based cleaners at the foil edges.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Profile 22 windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Profile 22 systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Pro Tips
- Always clean the trickle ventilators on the first visit to a new Profile 22 property - they are almost always blocked and customers notice the ventilation improvement
- On ovolo Profile 22 profiles, use a second rinse pass on the frame after cleaning - the rebate groove holds residue that causes streaking on the inner face if not fully cleared
- Flag to customers when Profile 22 frames on south-facing elevations are showing surface chalking - this is a maintenance signal for an older installation
What NOT To Do
- Do not use bleach or chlorine cleaners on any Profile 22 uPVC surface
- Do not use solvent-based cleaners on colour-foil Profile 22 profiles
- Do not use abrasive pads on any profile surface
- Do not neglect trickle ventilator cleaning - blocked vents cause condensation and are a compliance issue
- Do not pressure wash Profile 22 frames - high pressure forces water into frame cavities and glazing bar joints

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
โProfile 22 is so common in UK social housing stock that many residents have never had the trickle ventilators cleaned. Block clearing on the first visit often produces a noticeable improvement in ventilation that customers notice immediately. The sculptured ovolo sightline on Profile 22 holds more grime in the rebate curve than the chamfered variant - allow extra time on cleaning these profiles. On UK coastal installations with Profile 22 white uPVC, check the south and west-facing elevations for UV-related surface chalking on frames more than 15 years old.โ
