Why This System
PG Aluminium's trade model means their systems are installed by professional glaziers with consistent technique. This is a quality advantage over some market segments where amateur installation causes seal failures and leaks. For cleaners, PG Aluminium systems are among the more consistently installed aluminium windows in the South African market.
South African aluminium windows face UV loading that is significantly higher than Europe, coastal salt air on Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coastal installations, and hail exposure in Gauteng. PG Aluminium's powder-coated frames need regular cleaning to protect the coating from UV degradation and salt corrosion.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean PG Aluminium windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for PG Aluminium systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every PG Aluminium installation.
- 1
1. Pre-rinse frames and glass with clean water.
- 2
2. Apply pH-neutral detergent to glass and powder-coated frames.
- 3
3. Squeegee glass top to bottom; overlap strokes.
- 4
4. Wipe frames with microfibre along extrusion direction.
- 5
5. Clear weep holes; check gasket condition at frame corners.
Pro Tips
- Cape Town coastal: salt deposits concentrate at weep holes and bottom rail of sliding windows - clear these on every visit.
- South African UV is intense - check powder coat condition annually. Report any chalking or peel to client.
- Sliding systems: check and clear the bottom track on every visit - Cape Town wind-blown sand and leaf debris packs into tracks.
What NOT To Do
- Do not use acid descalers on PG Aluminium powder-coated frames.
- Do not use abrasive products on frames or glass.
- Do not ignore weep hole blockage - Cape Town winter rain causes water backup if drains are blocked.

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
βPG Aluminium systems are the standard specification in South African residential construction. In Cape Town, you will encounter these on the majority of residential properties. Know the common failure points: weep holes block in winter, gaskets crack in summer UV, and sliding tracks fill with sand in the Cape wind. Address all three on every visit.β
