Why This System
Mockfjärds represents the premium handcrafted end of Nordic timber windows. The joinery quality is high, but the surface finish is as vulnerable to water and abrasion as any solid timber product. These windows are found in homes where the owner cares deeply about the aesthetic - cleaning must match that standard.
Handcrafted timber demands the most careful approach in our work. At Orloffs we treat every Mockfjärds window as we would a fine piece of furniture - appropriate cleaners, soft tools and a dry finish. Marks or streaks left on these frames are noticed immediately.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol
The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Mockfjärds windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Mockfjärds systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Mockfjärds installation.
- 1
1. Inspect all frame surfaces - note any finish damage, open joints or previous water staining
- 2
2. Low-pressure pure water rinse from top to bottom
- 3
3. Wipe frames with a soft cloth and pH-neutral cleaner only
- 4
4. Clean glass with squeegee - keep solution off the timber at all times
- 5
5. Dry every frame surface completely with a clean microfibre before moving to the next window
Pro Tips
- Oil or wax finishes on Mockfjärds frames react differently to water than painted surfaces - identify the finish first
- Moulded profiles collect debris in the shadow lines - use a fine detail brush for these areas
- Advise owners if glazing putty is cracking - water entry behind the glass bead causes hidden damage
What NOT To Do
- Do not use any product not confirmed as timber-safe
- Do not scrub moulded profiles - use a soft brush only
- Do not leave any moisture on the frame surface

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
“Mockfjärds windows in heritage Swedish homes often have divided light panes with glazing bars. Each pane is small, making squeegee work slower. Budget extra time and use a smaller squeegee - 10" or 12" - on divided-light units.”
