Why This System

LX Hausys FENEST profiles are engineered for Korea's climate duality: deep cold winters requiring strong thermal performance, and humid summers that stress frame seals and glazing unit edges. The combination of multi-chamber uPVC profiles with energy-rated glazing units is standard across the range - cleaning that damages seals or glazing edges directly undermines the reason these windows were installed.

Korea's yellow dust season (March to May) deposits a fine, alkaline-leaning particulate on every external surface. On uPVC profiles, dry yellow dust ground in by rain becomes abrasive. On Low-E glass, if it is scrubbed rather than soaked and squeegeed, surface micro-scratches reduce coating effectiveness. The correct approach is pre-soak, not scrub.

Official Care Guidance

No official guide published. The steps below are based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience with this system.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean LX Hausys windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for LX Hausys systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Ettore Squeegee 14"
2Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole
3Moerman Liquidator
4Boab Belt System

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every LX Hausys installation.

  1. 1

    1. Pre-rinse the entire window - glass, frames, sills, and weep holes - with clean water before applying any solution. Yellow dust and winter road salt must be flushed, not scrubbed.

  2. 2

    2. Apply pH-neutral cleaning solution to the glass. Allow 20-30 seconds dwell time on heavy soiling from dust or pollution.

  3. 3

    3. Squeegee glass top to bottom with clean, consistent strokes. Wipe the squeegee blade after each pass.

  4. 4

    4. Wipe uPVC frames with a damp microfibre cloth and fresh pH-neutral solution. Do not use the same cloth used on glass - transfer of grit causes frame scratches.

  5. 5

    5. Clear weep holes with a soft brush. Humid summers and autumn rainfall pack debris into drainage channels. Blocked weep holes cause water to stand behind the frame base.

Pro Tips

  • During yellow dust season, double your cleaning frequency and always pre-rinse before any other step - dry-scrubbing yellow dust on glass or uPVC causes surface abrasion.
  • In winter, check for ice at frame bases and weep hole exits before cleaning. Ice in drainage channels means water is trapped inside the frame - do not pressure rinse until it has thawed.
  • Never use alkaline or high-pH cleaners on FENEST uPVC profiles - Korean yellow dust is already slightly alkaline and combined residue accelerates profile yellowing.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not dry-scrub frames or glass during or after yellow dust season - pre-rinse first, always.
  • Do not use abrasive pads or scouring powders on uPVC profiles.
  • Do not pressure wash directly into glazing unit edges or frame joints - Korea's thermal systems rely on intact seals.

Field Notes

โ€œYellow dust settles in every track groove, weep hole, and frame joint. On sliding FENEST windows, clean the interlock channel every visit during spring - packed yellow dust causes seal wear and operational stiffness within one season if left. On high-floor installations, yellow dust soiling on north-facing elevations is lighter; south and west elevations take the heaviest loading.โ€
