Why This System

Polish window fabricators often use European profile systems but specify hardware from multiple suppliers depending on price point. A single Polish manufacturer may use GU hardware on premium products and Roto or Winkhaus hardware on standard products - the hardware varies even within the same brand range. Polish PVC windows exported to Western European markets are sometimes installed without the property owner knowing the origin. The profile system (VEKA, aluplast, etc.) is the relevant cleaning factor - Polish fabrication does not change the material cleaning requirements. Polish aluminium windows at the mid-range tier use standard thermally broken profiles and powder-coat finishes. The cleaning protocol is identical to any other mid-range European aluminium product. Colour-foil PVC windows from Polish manufacturers are widely exported to German and Austrian markets where dark woodgrain foils are popular. The darker foils require the same care as on any other PVC system - no solvent, no abrasive, check corner welds. The Polish window market produces high volumes at competitive prices. Quality across manufacturers varies more than in premium markets. The profile system specification and hardware grade are the best indicators of product quality on any Polish-fabricated window.

Step 1 of 2: Manufacturer Recommendations

Official Care Guidance

Source: ORLOFFS PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE - BASED ON KOMSTA PUBLISHED INFORMATION AND 25 YEARS FIELD EXPERIENCE

Glass

  • Lukewarm water with mild dish soap or purpose-made glass cleaner.
  • Microfibre T-bar applicator on wash, professional squeegee on pull. Fresh rubber blade.
  • Check for low-e or solar-control coatings before using any hard tool on the glass surface.
  • No razor blades without confirming glass specification.

Frames

  • PVC frames: pH-neutral cleaner on a damp cloth. No bleach, solvent, or abrasive.
  • Aluminium frames: pH-neutral cleaner, soft cloth, rinse, dry immediately.
  • Colour-foil PVC: same as white PVC plus check corner welds for foil lift at every clean.
  • Clear drainage slots at the bottom of every frame at every clean.

Hardware

  • Identify the hardware brand before lubricating. GU, Roto, and Winkhaus hardware have different lubrication points.
  • Wipe hardware dry after cleaning. Standing water on steel hardware causes rust staining on adjacent white PVC.
  • Lubricate tilt-and-turn mechanisms and hinge points annually.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean Komsta Okna i Drzwi windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Komsta Okna i Drzwi systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Microfibre T-bar applicator
2Professional squeegee, 35 cm channel
3pH-neutral PVC frame cleaner
4pH-neutral aluminium cleaner
5Soft-bristle brush
6Cotton detailing cloths
7Light machine oil

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Komsta Okna i Drzwi installation.

  1. 1

    Profile and hardware identification

Identify the profile type: white PVC, colour-foil PVC, or aluminium. The profile system (VEKA, aluplast, GEALAN) may be visible on a label in the sash rebate.

Identify the hardware brand. GU, Roto, and Winkhaus are the most common on Polish-fabricated mid-range windows. The brand is often visible on the locking point covers or the hinge face.

On colour-foil PVC, note the foil colour and check the corner welds before starting.

  2. 2

    Glass wash

Apply soap solution with T-bar in full overlapping passes.

30 to 60 seconds dwell on soiling.

    Rinse T-bar cover between windows.

  3. 3

    Edge detail

Cloth pass along the glass rebate before squeegeeing.

On colour-foil profiles, keep the edge cloth away from the foil edge at the frame rebate - the foil edge is the most vulnerable point.

Dry the top frame rail before squeegeeing.

  4. 4

    Squeegee

Side-to-side passes from top to bottom. Fresh rubber, kept clean between passes.

On white PVC frames, rubber residue shows as a grey smear on the frame face - wipe the rubber frequently.

    Bottom edge pass to complete.

  5. 5

    Frame wipe-down

PVC: pH-neutral cleaner on damp cloth, rinse, dry. Aluminium: pH-neutral cleaner, rinse, dry immediately.

On colour-foil PVC, check corner welds as part of the frame wipe step.

Clear drainage slots with a soft brush.

  6. 6

    Hardware check

Run each window through full tilt-and-turn operation. Note stiffness and which function it affects.

Dry all hardware and note stiff points for annual lubrication visit.

On sliding and parallel-slide systems, operate full travel and check rollers run freely.

Pro Tips

  • Polish-fabricated windows often carry a profile system label in the sash rebate (VEKA, aluplast, GEALAN). Use this to identify the exact profile cleaning protocol - the profile system spec is more useful than the Komsta brand name for selecting products.
  • Hardware brand identification on Polish windows is sometimes tricky - the locking point covers may be blank rather than branded. Look at the hinge face or the corner cover on the sash edge for the brand identifier.
  • Colour-foil PVC from Polish manufacturers is very common in the German and Austrian residential market. The corner weld check is the most important pre-clean assessment on any colour-foil installation.
  • On Polish-fabricated windows exported to Western European markets, the glazing specification is often better than on comparable domestic-market products - triple glazing and warm-edge spacers are commonly specified for export.
  • Drainage slot clearance on Polish PVC windows follows the profile system design. VEKA profiles have drainage exits at specific positions on the frame base; aluplast and GEALAN profiles have slightly different positions. Familiarise yourself with the profile system to locate the correct drainage positions.
  • Polish aluminium windows at the mid-range tier use standard thermally broken profiles from European aluminium profile suppliers. Powder coat quality on mid-range Polish aluminium is typically reliable but should be checked with a pH test before applying any new cleaner.
  • On properties in Germany or Austria with Polish-fabricated windows, the client may not know who made the windows. The profile label in the sash rebate gives you more useful information than the nameplate on the frame.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use solvent-based cleaners on any PVC profile surface including colour-foil.
  • Do not use abrasive pads on any frame surface.
  • Do not apply hardware lubricant without identifying the hardware brand first.
  • Do not leave drainage slots blocked - the profile system drainage design relies on clear exits.
  • Do not ignore foil lift at colour-foil corner welds - it spreads if left untreated and the frame cannot be repaired in the field once the foil has lifted significantly.

Field Notes

โ€œPolish-fabricated windows are encountered across Western Europe in properties built or renovated in the 2000s to 2020s. The quality is generally reliable on mid-range and above products. The main field variable is hardware - identifying the brand before servicing is the most important pre-clean step. Colour-foil PVC from Polish manufacturers is the product most likely to show corner weld foil lift on properties over 10 years old, particularly in south-facing or high-UV locations. Build the corner weld check into every visit. The profile system label in the sash rebate is the most useful piece of information on any Polish-fabricated window. It tells you the exact cleaning and maintenance protocol for the profile material, regardless of which Polish company assembled the window.โ€
