Why This System

KLIL combines local manufacturing with Alcoa-backed engineering - rare in the regional market. Their patent portfolio reflects decades of adaptation to Israel's specific climate demands: thermal performance for hot summers, dust-sealing for desert wind events, and corrosion resistance for coastal salt air. As a publicly traded company with long-standing institutional supply relationships, their systems are ubiquitous across Israeli construction.

KLIL aluminium frames accumulate mineral dust from desert wind events, salt deposits from coastal air, and hard water scale from irrigation runoff and window-mounted air conditioning units. High UV accelerates oxidation of frame surfaces if contaminants are left in contact. Standard household detergents leave residue in the fine extrusion channels. Professional cleaning protects the anodised or powder-coated surface and keeps drainage and ventilation gaps clear.

Official Care Guidance

No official guide published. The steps below are based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience with this system.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean KLIL Industries windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for KLIL Industries systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Ettore Squeegee 14"
2Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole
3Moerman Liquidator
4Boab Belt System

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every KLIL Industries installation.

  1. 1

    1. Pre-rinse frames and sills with clean water to flush loose desert dust and mineral particles before applying any product.

  2. 2

    2. Apply pH-neutral detergent to glass and frames - avoid acidic or alkaline products on powder-coated or anodised aluminium.

  3. 3

    3. Work top to bottom: squeegee glass, then wipe aluminium frames with a damp microfibre cloth in the direction of the extrusion grain.

  4. 4

    4. Clear weep holes and drainage channels with a soft brush - dust and salt crust blocks drainage causing water ingress behind frames.

  5. 5

    5. Final rinse of sills and channels; dry exposed hardware with a cloth to slow salt-air corrosion on coastal installations.

Pro Tips

  • Never clean in direct Israeli summer sun - solution dries within seconds leaving mineral streaks that are harder to remove than the original grime.
  • After sharav (hamsin) dust events, soak the glass surface for 30 seconds before squeegeeing - dry dust dragged across glass scratches the surface.
  • On coastal sites from Tel Aviv to Haifa, check and clear weep holes every visit - salt crust accumulates faster than inland sites.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use acidic limescale removers on anodised or powder-coated aluminium - strips the protective surface layer.
  • Do not pressure wash directly into frame joints or interlock channels - forces mineral-laden water past seals.
  • Do not use steel wool or abrasive pads on aluminium frames - surface scratches trap salt and accelerate corrosion.

What tools do I need for KLIL Industries windows?
Professional cleaning of KLIL Industries windows requires my daily tool list of: Ettore Squeegee 14", Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole, Moerman Liquidator, Boab Belt System.
What should I avoid on KLIL Industries windows?
Do not use acidic limescale removers on anodised or powder-coated aluminium - strips the protective surface layer.
Does KLIL Industries publish an official cleaning guide?
KLIL Industries has not published an official cleaning guide. The protocol on this page is based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience.
Can I use a water-fed pole on KLIL Industries windows?
Yes, purified water via a water-fed pole is one of the safest methods for KLIL Industries glass. Ensure TDS is at or near zero before use and avoid directing high-pressure water at seals or gaskets.

Field Notes

โ€œHard water scale from drip irrigation systems and external air conditioning units is a common problem on Israeli residential buildings. A dilute white vinegar pre-soak on glass works for light scale - but keep it off aluminium frames. On high-rise work in Tel Aviv and Herzliya, wind-driven salt deposits concentrate on west and north-west facing elevations; these need more dwell time and a second wipe.โ€
