Why This System
KCC Glass supplies the glass element - the performance component inside the frame system. Their Low-E coatings are applied to the inner surface of insulated units and are not reachable for cleaning, but the outer glass surface still requires correct care: neutral pH, no abrasives, no tools that scratch the surface and scatter light through the coating stack. On Klenze-branded residential windows, the glass specification is typically high-performance double or triple glazing with Low-E inner panes.
Korean construction sites and urban environments deposit a complex mix of pollution, yellow dust, and construction residue on glass. KCC Glass coated units require pH-neutral cleaning - alkaline construction site cleaners or acid-based descalers will etch the glass surface or attack spacer bar coatings at the unit edge over time. Yellow dust season demands pre-rinsing before squeegee work: dry particulate ground into coated glass creates micro-scratches that scatter light and reduce coating clarity.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean KCC Glass windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for KCC Glass systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every KCC Glass installation.
- 1
1. Pre-rinse the glass surface with clean water. On KCC Low-E glass, never start squeegee work on a dry or dry-dusted surface.
- 2
2. Apply pH-neutral solution and allow brief dwell time on construction or yellow dust soiling.
- 3
3. Squeegee from top to bottom with clean blade. Check blade for nicks before each session - a single nick in the blade edge creates a permanent scratch line on coated glass.
- 4
4. Inspect glazing unit edges after cleaning. Any signs of seal discolouration or unit fogging indicate failed unit integrity - note for the building manager.
- 5
5. Wipe the perimeter frame and sill to remove run-off - standing cleaning solution on aluminium or uPVC frame perimeters will streak glass on the next rain cycle.
Pro Tips
- KCC Klenze units often have a slight tint or coating sheen - check your squeegee angle in direct light to confirm no streaking from an inconsistent blade pass.
- Never use metal scrapers on KCC coated glass even for stubborn residue - request chemical spotting solution appropriate for coated glass.
- On high-rise facades with KCC supplied curtain wall glass, check for sealant smearing around unit perimeters - construction sealant is a common post-handover soiling type and requires a dedicated sealant remover, not standard detergent.
What NOT To Do
- Do not use alkaline or acid-based cleaners on KCC coated glass units.
- Do not use abrasive pads or scrapers - coated glass is more vulnerable to surface scratching than standard float glass.
- Do not clean during or immediately after yellow dust falls without pre-rinsing - dry particulate on the glass surface causes scratching under the squeegee.

Every 6-8 weeks in urban Seoul environments. Monthly during yellow dust season. New-build handover cleaning should be treated as a separate project from ongoing maintenance - construction residue requires different products and significantly more time.

Field Notes
โOn Korean high-rise projects where KCC glass has been specified for curtain wall panels, the primary post-construction cleaning challenge is construction adhesive and cement haze on the glass surface. Cement haze on coated glass requires a dilute acid-gel product applied carefully, not mechanical scrubbing. Always test on a non-visible panel section first and confirm product compatibility with KCC glass coating types before treating a full elevation.โ
