Why This System

GGL brings Guardian Industries' float glass technology to India. Guardian is known globally for its SunGuard coated glass - some processed GGL float glass reaches the Indian market with high-performance coatings applied at Guardian processing facilities. For cleaners, tinted and reflective GGL glass is common on commercial buildings across western India.

Gujarat's climate is among India's most demanding: extreme summer heat, low humidity, high UV, and significant dust loading from the industrial corridor. Reflective coated glass is common on commercial buildings in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Mumbai. These coatings are surface-applied and require careful cleaning.

Official Care Guidance

No official guide published. The steps below are based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience with this system.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean Gujarat Guardian windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Gujarat Guardian systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Ettore Squeegee 18"
2Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole
3Moerman Liquidator
4Boab Belt System

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Gujarat Guardian installation.

  1. 1

    1. Identify glass type - clear float, tinted, or reflective coated. Reflective glass has a metallic appearance.

  2. 2

    2. Pre-rinse to remove Gujarat dust loading before detergent.

  3. 3

    3. Apply pH-neutral detergent; dwell on heavy soiling.

  4. 4

    4. Squeegee top to bottom with clean rubber - no blades on reflective coated glass.

  5. 5

    5. Detail edges; inspect silicone joints on commercial installs.

Pro Tips

  • Reflective coated GGL glass: the coating is on the exterior surface - treat as you would any magnetron-sputtered coating. No abrasives, no acid.
  • Gujarat summer: clean in early morning - afternoon heat dries detergent in seconds on glass surfaces exceeding 60°C.
  • Tinted GGL glass shows water spotting more visibly than clear glass - use pure water for final rinse where possible.

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use blades on reflective coated GGL glass.
  • Do not clean in direct Gujarat midday sun.
  • Do not use abrasive products on any coated GGL product.

Field Notes

Commercial buildings in Ahmedabad and Surat commonly use reflective glass from GGL or processed from GGL float. The reflective surface shows every smear - use a two-bucket system and change rubber frequently. In high-dust periods (pre-monsoon), budget a dry dust-off pass before wetting the glass.
