Why This System
Guardian GulfGuard's Al Jubail plant supplies base glass that feeds into Guardian's SunGuard processing range. SunGuard solar control coated glass is specified on many of the most prominent commercial buildings in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. For cleaners, understanding Guardian glass means understanding the SunGuard coating system.
Guardian SunGuard coated glass uses magnetron sputtered coatings. These are high-performance but sensitive to abrasive cleaning, acid products, and blades. Gulf conditions compound the challenge: sand, heat, and salt air. Cleaning protocol must be coating-safe and climate-aware.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Guardian GulfGuard windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Guardian GulfGuard systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every Guardian GulfGuard installation.
- 1
1. Check glass type - SunGuard or standard Guardian float. SunGuard has an edge label.
- 2
2. Flush glass with water to remove sand before any detergent.
- 3
3. Apply coating-safe pH-neutral detergent.
- 4
4. Squeegee with fresh rubber - never use a blade on Guardian SunGuard.
- 5
5. Detail edges; final rinse with pure water if available.
Pro Tips
- SunGuard coating is typically on Position 2 (inner surface of outer pane in a DGU) - not accessible. But confirm before assuming.
- Al Jubail and Eastern Province: high humidity from the Gulf combines with industrial particulate from the petrochemical corridor. Heavy soiling requires dwell time.
- Guardian tinted glass shows hard water spots prominently - pure water system reduces post-clean spotting significantly.
What NOT To Do
- Do not use blades on Guardian SunGuard coated glass.
- Do not use acid-based products on tinted or coated Guardian glass.
- Do not clean in direct Saudi midday sun.
