Why This System

GlasLindberg operates at the architectural end of the market - their systems appear on prestige commercial buildings and cultural projects where aesthetics and technical performance are both critical. Metal facade systems require specialist cleaning knowledge: the frame materials, coatings and fixings differ significantly from standard residential windows.

Architectural metal facades accumulate urban pollution, bird fouling and mineral deposits from rainwater runoff. Incorrect cleaners react with specialist coatings on aluminium or steel profiles. At Orloffs we identify the frame material and coating type before selecting any cleaning product, and we treat architectural glass with the same care as standard panes - no scratching, no streaking.

Official Care Guidance

No official guide published. The steps below are based on Justin Orloff's 25 years hands-on experience with this system.

Step 2 of 2: The Orloffs Protocol

The Orloffs Protocol

This is how I clean GlasLindberg windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for GlasLindberg systems.

Pro Tools

My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.

1Ettore Squeegee 18"
2Unger HiFlo Pure Water Pole
3Moerman Liquidator
4Boab Belt System

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last. This is the same sequence I use on every GlasLindberg installation.

  1. 1

    1. Assess frame material and coating - anodised aluminium, powder coat or painted steel all have different tolerances

  2. 2

    2. Test cleaning solution in an inconspicuous area on the frame before full application

  3. 3

    3. Rinse the facade top-to-bottom with pure water

  4. 4

    4. Clean glass with an 18" or larger squeegee for efficiency on large panes

  5. 5

    5. Detail metal joints, fixings and sill drains - these trap debris and can cause staining if left

Pro Tips

  • Never use acid-based cleaners on anodised aluminium profiles without manufacturer approval
  • Swedish summer pollen is heavy - a dedicated rinse pass before soaping prevents smearing on large panes
  • On coastal or urban sites, check drainage channels in the facade regularly - blocked drains cause water ingress staining

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use acidic or strongly alkaline cleaners without confirming compatibility with the coating
  • Do not use steel wool or metal-bladed scrapers on any coated metal profile
  • Do not leave cleaning solution on metal surfaces in direct sun
