Why This System

Fujisash's heritage in landmark commercial projects means their curtain wall systems are encountered on significant, high-value buildings. The glass in older Fujisash curtain wall installations may be single-glazed - a specification no longer used in new construction but still present in 1960s and 1970s building stock. Anodised aluminium finishes appear more frequently on Fujisash commercial systems than on mass-market TOSTEM residential products. Anodising requires a different cleaning approach from powder coat - it is more resistant to UV degradation but more susceptible to alkaline cleaning agents. The age of some Fujisash installations means the original sealants and glazing compounds may be at or beyond their service life. Cleaning pressure or cleaning chemistry that would be routine on a modern installation can accelerate seal failure on 40-year-old glazing.

Pro Tips

  • On anodised Fujisash frames, test your cleaning product on an inconspicuous corner first - even products labelled pH-neutral can vary between batches and pH-meter verification is the only certainty
  • Older Fujisash curtain wall on landmark buildings may be subject to heritage or conservation constraints - check with the building manager whether any specialist glazing contractors are involved before starting

What NOT To Do

  • Do not use alkaline cleaners on anodised aluminium - they dissolve the anodic layer
  • Do not use acidic cleaners on anodised aluminium - they react with base metal at scratches
  • Do not use abrasive pads on anodised or powder-coated frames
  • Do not pressure wash into gaskets or sealants on pre-1990 curtain wall installations
  • Do not squeegee with heavy edge pressure on old glazing - seal failure risk on aged sealants

Field Notes

โ€œKasumigaseki Building and other 1960s Fujisash curtain wall installations are now over 50 years old. Any cleaning on these buildings should be briefed to the building manager - sealant and gasket condition should be assessed before the first clean on aged stock. Anodised aluminium on older Fujisash commercial systems can show white bloom - oxidation deposits in surface pores. These are removable with a dedicated anodised aluminium cleaner, not with standard glass cleaning products.โ€
