Why This System
The fibreglass reinforcement inside Durabuilt hybrid frames means these windows expand and contract less across the temperature range than standard uPVC. This reduces cumulative stress on corner welds but does not eliminate the need for annual post-winter seal inspection. Durabuilt products are built for the Edmonton market - this is a city that sees minus 40 in January and plus 35 in July. An 75-degree annual temperature range is an extraordinary load on any frame material. The hybrid system handles it better than standard uPVC, but the cleaning protocol remains the same.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Durabuilt Windows & Doors windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Durabuilt Windows & Doors systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Pro Tips
- Do not be misled by the rigidity of hybrid frames into thinking they are tough on the surface - clean them the same way you would standard uPVC
- On replacement window jobs, check if the old window was uPVC and the new one is hybrid - the frame geometry is different and track brushing tools may need to be adjusted
What NOT To Do
- Do not use abrasive pads on uPVC or hybrid frame surfaces
- Do not use solvent-based or citrus oil cleaning products
- Do not pressure wash into frame joints or weep holes
- Do not skip the dry track pre-clean before introducing water

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
“The Edmonton climate puts more thermal stress on window frames than almost any other major Canadian city. The spring clean is the critical diagnostic visit - budget time for it properly. Hybrid frames feel more rigid than standard uPVC - do not mistake this for being tougher on cleaning. The surface finish is still standard uPVC and responds to abrasion the same way.”
