Why This System
CWG Choices Alu-clad products present two different surfaces to the window cleaner - the aluminium outer cladding faces the weather and is cleaned with aluminium protocol; the timber inner frame faces the interior and requires timber-appropriate care. The interface between aluminium cladding and timber frame on Alu-clad products is a potential moisture ingress point if water is driven into the joint during cleaning. This joint must never be pressure washed. UK timber windows from any supplier, including CWG, are subject to the UK's persistent damp climate - mould, paint failure, and swelling are the primary maintenance concerns and should be documented when observed.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean CWG Choices windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for CWG Choices systems.

Pro Tips
- Always identify the material type before selecting the cleaning product - CWG Choices properties can have uPVC, aluminium, and Alu-clad windows on the same elevation
- On Alu-clad windows, clean the outer aluminium face first, then move inside to clean the inner timber face - keeps the workflow logical and prevents product cross-contamination
- Flag any bare or deteriorating timber on CWG timber or Alu-clad inner frames to the customer in writing - UK damp accelerates timber failure once paint cover is lost
What NOT To Do
- Do not pressure wash Alu-clad joint between aluminium cladding and timber frame
- Do not use uPVC chemical cleaners on timber inner frames
- Do not use abrasive pads on powder-coated aluminium cladding
- Do not allow excess water to run onto bare or damaged timber sections
- Do not use solvent-based cleaners on rubber seals or glazing edges across any CWG product

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
โCWG Choices Alu-clad windows are common in premium UK self-build and renovation projects. The customers at these properties often have high expectations - take extra care with tool marks and product residue on the aluminium outer face. UK timber inner frames on Alu-clad windows in older properties may have been painted with lead paint. If paint is pre-2000 and in poor condition, follow safe working practice guidance for lead paint - do not sand or scrape. CWG uPVC products clean identically to other UK uPVC profiles - pH-neutral cleaner, soft cloth, drain slot maintenance.โ
