Why This System
Cuprum's dominance of the Mexican aluminium window market means that cleaning professionals working in Mexico will encounter Cuprum systems across virtually every type of property and climate zone. From Mexico City's 2,200-metre altitude and temperate climate to Cancún's sea-level tropical humidity - Cuprum systems span them all. Mexico's hard water is a universal cleaning challenge on Cuprum glass. The calcium and magnesium mineral content of Mexican municipal and well water leaves deposits on glass that are significantly harder than in European or North American markets. These deposits require acid-based removal products - but acid must never contact Cuprum aluminium frames, particularly anodised finishes. Cuprum's coastal hurricane systems (Serie Huracán) use laminated glass with a PVB interlayer - the same technology as Florida impact windows. The same protocol applies: never use abrasive pads near chips in the outer pane, inspect edge seals at every clean.

The Orloffs Protocol
This is how I clean Cuprum windows. The tools and technique below come from 25 years of daily professional work on the glass. Every step has been tested on real installations and adapted specifically for Cuprum systems.
Pro Tools
My daily tool list. This is what I carry to every job.
Pro Tips
- Carry purified water in a spray bottle on every Mexico Cuprum job - use it as the final rinse on glass after squeegeeing to prevent mineral spotting from tap water
- When removing hard water deposits from Cuprum glass, work panel by panel and mask the frame on each panel before applying acid - removing the mask and moving it is slower but protects the aluminium completely
- In Mexico's coastal locations, advise Cuprum homeowners to rinse frames with purified or filtered water after any sea breeze day - this is the lowest-cost maintenance action available to them
What NOT To Do
- Do not allow acid-based mineral removers to contact Cuprum aluminium frames - mask frames before applying acid to glass
- Do not use alkaline cleaners on anodised Cuprum aluminium
- Do not use abrasive pads on anodised aluminium, powder-coated frames, or laminated glass
- Do not use mineral-rich Mexican tap water as a final rinse - use purified or demineralised water
- Do not use scrapers near chips in Serie Huracán laminated glass outer panes

Frequently Asked Questions
Field Notes
“Mexico's hard water mineral deposits are the most frequent cleaning complaint on Cuprum glass. Carrying a purified water supply for the final rinse, and advising clients to rinse glass with purified water between professional cleans, significantly reduces re-deposition. In Mexico's Pacific coastal markets (Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo), Cuprum frames in direct ocean-facing positions need the same weekly rinse protocol as South Florida impact windows. Mexico City and Central Plateau Cuprum installations: UV is intense even at altitude. IGU seal degradation is faster than in equivalent northern latitude climates - annual seal inspection is warranted.”
